I'm planning a trip that would arrive at Newark International Airport on Sunday, at 9:40 pm (April 7, 2013). It would be arriving from Mexico. On Amtrak's website, the last train from EWR to Washington, DC departs at 10:27 pm. I'm thinking this would not be enough to catch the last train. Is this correct?

I would say that's pretty close. You also have to figure delays of the plane and also delays getting thru Customs and Immigration. You might be able to take a New Jersey Transit train from EWR to either Newark - Penn Station or New York - Penn Station where there may be more trains to WAS.

Way too close. You'd only make it if the flight arrived a few minutes early and you were sitting near the front of the cabin, etc...but you just

can't count on that. Easiest thing would be to cab it to Newark Penn Station where you could catch the last NER departure of the night at

11:21 but of course you'd be shelling out cab fare on top of the train ticket. Using NJT to backtrack to NWK might work but despite their

frequent service, you're still talking about late on a Sunday evening, which is when their schedules would be on the thin side.
