Crescent Parking

On other lines. I know specific towns that have long term parking spaces and with that, what towns are safe to leave your car in overnight or for extended trips. I realize that in any place at anytime a car can get jack or broken into. I'm not stupid. But some areas pose less risk then others.

My question is

What is the least risky parking area or areas along the crescent line south of the Atlanta stop but before the New Orleans stop, to leave a car for a trip.

Meridian is always a good place to leave an automobile without fear of it being broken into. There are almost always police officers in the near vicinity, the same goes for Picayune and Slidell. I wouldn't trust any of the stations in Alabama nor would I trust Laurel. Hattiesburg is an alright spot to leave a car, but never again Meridian takes the gold in this case.

Anniston AL is a small town. I have several friends who have parked there for several days and had no problems. They are totally sold on the idea.

I've only seen the town from the train so can't personally comment on it. I believe the station is unstaffed by amtrak, but the station is staffed locally. (Just someone to open up the station). So there is an employee presence every day.

I live somewhat close to Slidell, LA, and I'd feel comfortable leaving my vehicle there. It's in a nice part of town with a bunch of small shops and places to eat. There's no staffed station, but the building itself is actually a restaurant now. So there's generally a few people coming and going all the time anyway.

I'm not as familiar with Picayune, MS, but it's also a quiet small town and the station always looks nice when we go through. I wouldn't leave my car in Laurel, MS.

I've parked for up to eight days a good many times at the Anniston station and never had problem. As you said, there are no guarantees. The station is staffed but I believe only during the times the Crescents come through. IIRC, there is some kind of railway office next door and some kind of hardware (?) store across the street. There aren't many parking spots but I've always gotten one. You can park right at the side of the station building (a neat old Southern Railway station, btw--see avatar photo). It doesn't look like the most secure area, but it's always worked well for us. The staff has consistently been very friendly and helpful as well.
