December 10, 2013 (CHICAGO) -- The union that represents CTA employees is warning commuters to expect dirtier train cars in the near future.
Robert Kelly, president of Local 308 of the Amalgamated Transit Union, claims that the CTA cut the funding for morning and mid-afternoon train car servicer positions, leaving trains to only be cleaned "on the midnights," according to a statement from the union.
The train car servicer positions are largely filled by the CTA's apprenticeship program that looks to employ ex-offenders.
"This could become a serious health matter for the public," Kelly said in a statement.
