The largest light rail project in the country will finally open 28 miles more miles tomorrow in Dallas! And I can't wait as this line actually comes somewhat close to my house. It'll run from Carrollton, northwest of downtown, all the way to southeast Dallas. In six months, the northern part of the line will connect to the Denton County Transit Authority's A-Train which will provide commuter service to Denton serving two major universities.

Here's a link to the DART website about the opening day.

And article from the Dallas Morning News about the project.

This is in addition to the Orange Line which is already under construction which will serve Irving and finally DFW Airport directly. It is scheduled to open in phases between 2012 and 2014.

 Good news Chris! Will the day passes cover the whole route or will they go to a zone system for the long routes? And will the TRE continue to be included till the line that goes to DFW is in service so you can get off at Midway and catch the bus to DFW??? Jim

There are several day passes depending on where you go. The DART local day pass which is $4 will get you on every local DART bus or train, but NOT the Trinity Railway Express. For the TRE you can get the System day pass for $7 and you can ride on all of DART, and TRE as far as Centreport/DFW Airport. If you want to ride the entire system, you need a Regional Day Pass for $10. With that you can ride the TRE on its entire length, all of DART, and all of the Fort Worth 'T' buses.

There's discounts for seniors 65 and over, and medicare card holders as well.
