Trackwork on the Del Mar bluffs is apparently set to begin on 5/19. It'll happen overnight on most Sundays and Mondays. Normally this type of work is done during the off season, but this time it's right in the heart of the summer and will last for two years!

Affected trains are morning northbound trains 761 and 765 and evening southbound trains 790 and 794, replaced with a bus shuttle south of Solana Beach. The bus shuttle seems to be loaded into the Amtrak reservation system for only the first weekend but not any after that yet. I haven't been notified of changes to any of my upcoming affected trips yet.

Railroad to Close in Del Mar on Certain Days for an Extended Time

Updated - April 30, 2024

Starting Sunday, May 19, 2024, changes to the Pacific Surfliner service will affect Downtown San Diego’s Santa Fe and Old Town San Diego stations. Due to ongoing construction work on the Del Mar Phase Five project, to stabilize the railroad right-of-way along the scenic bluffs, the following service disruptions will occur:

  • No service to Downtown San Diego’s Santa Fe and Old Town San Diego stations on Sunday evenings, Monday mornings and evenings, and Tuesday mornings.
  • This service adjustment is expected to last for approximately two years.
