It is about a 1/2 mile to the temporary Amtrak Station, from the new Union Station LRT and Mall Shuttle station. There are sidewalks the whole way, but much construction of new buildings, which could lead to some minor detours. If you don't mind the schleppe it is not bad. As an alternative, try RTD bus Route 38 from downtown westbound. It stops on the Park Avenue viaduct at Wewatta Street, which is about 300 feet down the ramp (with wide sidewalk) to the station.

Another question...would there be taxis available at the RTD terminal near DUS? Or would that not be proper to expect a taxi for that short distance? This would be about 5:15am....

Last June, my friend and I took the LRT to the Union Station stop and then walked to the temporary Amtrak station. It's not a bad walk, but it might not be as pleasant in the winter.

Assuming you're trying to catch the westbound Zephyr, if you arrived by 7:15 am, you'd have more than enough time to get from the LRT station over to the Amtrak stop, even if you walked.
