Hi-

The last time we took Amtrak, my wife was disappointed to learn that Pepsi was the exclusive soft drink distributor at every depot we stopped at. Has that changed, or do we need to bring Coke?

Thanks

Bring your own Coke on the train. If you're in the sleeper you can (normally) get ice to chill it down; if you're in coach bring a small cooler and your own ice. I haven't tried this, but I expect that a sob story and the promise of a nice tip in the lounge car might get you a reasonable amount of resupply if the attendant has extra.

Stations are a mixed bag, depending on what the local agents, property owners, and vending machine companies prefer to supply. The Houston station has a Pepsi-branded machine...but it also carries Coca-Cola and Sprite.

I take "natural" diet soda (Zevia) with me, but every now and then I will drink a diet pepsi in the diner.

Good one John! Ill drink to that too! :D (But I'll drink to almost anything!   )

Personally, I prefer Coke to Pepsi, but I also enjoy Dr. Pepper and Sprite. Although I am trying to cut back on soda (to which there are good days and not so good days), I'll purchase a 16 oz bottle of Coke (maybe two if it is a long trip) before boarding - since I know Coke is not served on board.

I found this on Wikipedia - thought it was interesting - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cola_Wars
