Escorted rail travel

Has anyone traveled by one of those escorted rail services? I travel by my self a lot but I have been reading in a travel booklet put out by a well known travel agency that if in a group it might be more fun as you get to know the other travelers who most likely are train buffs. It is a bit costly I admit but I think if you pay one up front cost it might give a peace of mind and have a group to share the ride with.I have only seen two such groups in Chicago and only being 57 I think I could get along alright.

Consider the Gathering in Seattle in October. It might qualify as escorted :help: , and you get to know a bunch of travelers.

I have seen several of these in my travels. On many trips they are a great source of info on when the trains will arrive and what track they will be on. I have thought about going to work for one.
