Express Trac on track?

I recently took a trip on the capitol limited from WAS-CHI and return( like 2 days ago) there were 2-4 express trac cars tacked onto the end of the train in both directions.

I thought Amtrak discontinued the M&E business.

They did, but there are some contracts that they can't get out of. So they have to run them out until they expire.

And if I recall correctly, the Express Trak contract still has some life left. It won't end for several more years.

I know that the contract to carry fruit from Washington State to the east coast was for like 10 years, and I think that they are only about 3 years into the contract.

Last I heard Amtrak was trying to get out of the contract through the courts, but the fruit growers were fighting it.
