When train 564 stopped today 8/22/2011 about 9:30 AM with a sharp jolt, I fell back on some luggage, but was hanging on with one hand did not fall to the floor. Conductor asked me if I was all right. I said I thought so, but my hip started to hurt after deboarding and I had pain down the left leg. They gave me the 1800 USA Rail number to call at the station but told me they could do nothing and I needed to call. On reaching my home in San Diego I called immediately and again at 5:45 PM but could not get through the "All agents helping other customers" for 10minutes per time. This is NOT good customer service. I am a great train fan, but this lessens my ardor. Why couldn't I get through?

This forum is not associated with Amtrak. We are sorry for your accident but you really need to discuss it with Amtrak at the 800 number.

You can't get through cause like said all agents are busy. Stay on the line and you will eventually get through. Calls are taken in the order they are received.

Judith, sorry to hear of your accident. Call back the 1800USARAIL and ask to speak to be transferred to customer relations. Unfortunately Mondays often have the highest call volume so you will need to wait on hold. I have waited upwards of 30 minutes sometimes.

I'm sorry you fell and potentially injured yourself.

I hope you get in contact with Amtrak soon and get your situation resolved.

However, as an internal joke to many AU'ers and as our administrator the_traveler

would say, "It appears that you are SOL at SOL!!! Right, Dave!!

Your call is very important to us (that's why we are too cheap to have more agents).

We are experiencing a heavy call volume (the same volume we have always had only now that we fired half our agents to give a big bonus to management, we are overwhelmed)

We are implementing a new system so your calls make take longer than usual (we outsourced our calltakers to a minimum wage company owned by the CEO's brother)

Calls are taken in the order they are received (unless of course you know someone or are a VIP).

Everyone else has responded with sensible comments, but your comments are a poor attempt at humor and not a reflection of most forum members. Take a deep breath and get a grip.

I am usually one of the first to hate on Amtrak, but the wait times at 1800USARAIL are really not that bad compared to a lot of places. The agents usually know what they are doing pretty well too. Bank of America and Charter have been horrible in my experience requiring at least 30 minutes minimum wait. Try calling Tracfone/Net10 and you will easily waste an hour once you get an agent simply because they are just reading a computer script and have no clue what they are doing.

Now on the whole hip thing I think that is the OP's responsibility and not Amtrak's. You know the train is stopping and to assume it will always be a 100 percent smooth is silly. If you can't keep your balance you need to sit when the train is stopping. Take some personal responsibility.

'Tis not even particularly funny :) I suggest that the OP consider some other line of work and avoid trying to be a keyboard standup comedian :p

This is extremely important !!! You need to go back to the station and fill out a pax injury report and GO IMMEDIATELY to your doctor if you have not done so...I've seen too many pax brush off what they "thought" was nothing serious only to be left holding the bag for expenses that Amtrak should incur. You can PM me for more details as I retired from the RR and know the process. If you can get the crew's names if would be a BIG help. Good luck!

Jay - she can't PM you as guests don't have that option.

And, while we may never know for sure, she may have thought this was an AMTRAK owned site so once she saw it wasn't she moved on and we'll probably never hear from her again. As you know, that happens a lot. But, she could come and post more - who knows!!
