First Amtrak #5 Back Has Private Car

The first westbound California Zephyr back running has the private car Dagny Taggart on the end. I caught Amtrak #5(16) Friday evening running on time east of Ottumwa, Iowa.

And the very next westbound California Zephyr also has one. This time it's Promontory Point on Amtrak #5(17).

Dagny Taggart is heading back east on the end of Amtrak #6(19). It was about two and a half hours late out of Ottumwa, Iowa.

Ayn Rand would be spinning in her grave like a generator at the thought of a railcar with that character's name being pulled on a government train. And anyone who remembers the train in the tunnel chapter of Atlas Shrugged will cringe a little at a car invoking Atlas Shrugged being on the California Zephyr and thus going through the Moffat Tunnel.

Promontory Point is now returning east on the California Zephyr due into Chicago later today. Amtrak #6(23) was running over three hours late out of Ottumwa, Iowa.

So how does that work when a private car is added to the end of an Amtrak train? If the car is unoccupied, I'm guessing it's just being relocated to wherever the owner wants it to be. But if it's occupied, can the occupants move from the private car into the Amtrak train and possibly get food from the cafe car and utilize the observation car?

Occupants of PVs on Amtrak Trains Can't board the Amtrak Cars, but are allowed to utilize the Metro Lounges in Cities where there is one.

And under Amtraks Rules, they are NOT allowed to ride on the Rear Platform of their Car while underway!
