I will need to drop off a rental car at San Francisco airport either the night before or the morning of our boarding the CS southbound at emy. Plan on staying in Emeryville the night before boarding. Any suggestions on getting from the SFO airport to our Emeryville hotel or the emy Amtrak station the morning of departure? Cab? Shuttle?

I'd take BART from the airport to the Ashby stop and then catch a cab to your hotel.

Alterantively if you book a hotel in San Fran, take BART to downtown San Fran, spend the night, then catch the Amtrak Thruway bus to EMY. If you do this, be sure to modify your reservation and get the bus tickets that you'll need.

It actually might be better to take BART only as far as MacArthur Station. Cabs are more plentiful around MacArthur Station, esp. in the evening, and the ride to the hotel area around the EMY Amtrak Station is a little bit quicker because of fewer traffic signals, and the fare would be about the same (or a little lower).

Also, all trains from SFO go to MacArthur. To get to Ashby, you would have to transfer at MacArthur.

Thanks for all the replies. The BART should work well as it turns out our hotel is at the Oakland Convention Center area. A cab to the EMY station in the AM should work well.

I would suggest taking the SamTrans KX bus to 1st and Mission, and then walk to the Ferry Building stop to catch an Amtrak bus to Emeryville.
