On a gray day in December,1975 I tried to fly PWA non-stop with my wife and infant son from Seattle to Vancouver for a loose connection to Edmonton. Due to fog, Victoria had been socked in and so PWA decided to deviate our flight to serve them. The problem was that my son and I were coming into Canada as landed immigrants. By the time the immigration papers were done by the lone border officer on duty the PWA was pulling the chocks out from the wheels on their Convair. And the flight attendant chewed me out for delaying the flight.Buses - but NO trains !
The train still beats the plane in this market (or did) -
YES the flight time is way shorter than the total train trip -
BUT compare city center to city center -
All the TSA early check-in {Customs} ATC delays etc.
Give me the comfort of the train - wide seat 4 across the width instead of 6
or scrunched up seating on a small barbie commuter jet baggage restrictions.
Why two countries with a close relationship of two cities on either side of a border
can't freely move people between each other is ridiculous to the Nth degree !
Short-haul flights run into weather, traffic and mechanical delays just like long-haul flights and the consequences are proportionately larger.
