Hello! I’m a new member from Southern Idaho; I’ve had the fortune to take Amtrak round trip twice on the California Zephyr (SLC-Chicago), and on the Cascades once (Seattle - Eugene). Unfortunately there’s not a lot of Amtrak near me now, but I’m hoping that changes at some point soon!

You might want to get your thoughts into the hopper before the March 17th deadline.

Comment on FRA Study to Restore Discontinued Amtrak Routes

AANW participated in the first round of regional working group meetings to provide the Federal Railroad Administration with feedback on the Amtrak Daily Long-Distance Service Study. The working group is bringing together state DOTs, Amtrak, Class I Railroads, metropolitan planning organizations, regional passenger rail authorities, local officials, federally recognized tribes, and the broader stakeholder community to evaluate how to better connect people with long-distance rail services. We discussed options for evaluating potential routes and how Amtrak and communities can work together to improve intercity passenger rail service.

We urge you to review the meeting materials collected so far, particularly regarding restoration of the North Coast Hiawatha and Pioneer services, and suggestions for new potential services. Make your comments via the web form on the study homepage or by email at [email protected]. The deadline is March 17, 2023.

You might find this video series interesting, although a bit dated.

Thank you! I’ve actually already filled out the form, and encouraged my family members and friends to fill it out with inspiration from my comment. Hey, if we have a once in a generation chance to add long distance trains, I want my voice to be heard

I know what you mean about not having any Amtrak near you. I'm in the same boat being in Columbus, OH (but hoping that changes soon as well -- it's in the talking stage at the moment). Amtrak from me is 2+ hours in any direction, but sometimes I do get the chance to drive the 2 hours and take it, as well as railfan it.

Welcome to the forum! Glad to have you!
