While waiting out a delay in ALB eastbound westbound from 449 to 49, I was paged by the Amtrak ticket agent. We got booted from the NY end of the train (49) in a roomette to the Boston end (449) and landed in bedroom A! The agent asked me if that was ok...

YES it's ok. Very ok!

Man, karma is kickin' butt today!

edit:

I've been confusing East and West this whole trip since we crossed the Mississippi. I finally figured out I have a continental case of directional-dyslexia (direxia?). Apparently, the nearest ocean is west. Glad I'm not driving!

Sorry if I confused, we're on our way west bound for home in Calif.

Boarded 470 shuttle NHV to SPG this morning and picked up #449 and was to xfer to 449 this evening when we were told our roomette was NLA and got bounced into a bedroom on 49.

Life is sweet!

Ok, now I'm confused. In your first post you said that you got booted from a NY sleeper to the Boston sleeper. In your second post on this, you state that you're in the NY sleeper in the bedroom. Help! Where did you land?

I think he means he was in coach in 449 and was going to get into a roomette in 49 because the rooms in 49 were cheaper to CHI than the rooms in 449. For some reason 49 is running over two hours late and he's been bumped from his room in 49. So they gave him a bedroom in 449.

Yes, thank you, that is what I meant to say.

Boy, just got notice they're delayed another 1/2 hr.

Maybe one of the sleepers was bad ordered or something?

Looks like you made out pretty well. I notice that 49 was over two hours late getting out of NYP yesterday, and thus was over two hours getting out of ALB yesterday. Whatever happened back in NY to make 49 so late getting out of NYP, and cause your fortunate upgrade?

I asked in one of your other LSL threads, but didn't get an answer, if ALB served pizza downstairs (or other food) because the NY segment was running late. What say you?

All they would tell me is that there were problems with a sleeper on 49. A passenger told me they had stopped numerous times trying to fix it. Who knows? Electrics? AC? Toilets? Never found out.

Good morning Petaluma, consider yourself one of the few Amtrak pax who has seen Ohio in daylight!
Woke up this Thurday morn to find we were about 2:45 behind. Had breakfast with a man who got on during the wee hours that said it was about 3:30 late. Got into CHI 2 hrs late, so made up some time. We had more trouble after ALB, first with a faulty electrical coupling the the diner, then some HEP problem in an engine. Eventually they got it sorted, but I swear I woke up a couple of times in the middle of nowhere dead stopped in the very early hours.

But, Ohio was nice!

Full (late) dinner in the diner, AmFood.

BTW, sitting in CHI lounge with half a 10" Giordano Deep Dish Special.

Damn, it's good! The Southwest Chief diner has some competition tonight. :p

:D well there is no "downstairs" on the LSL its all single level equipment unless thats changed in the week i've been without internet. Although if they were late I would hope the Cafe attendant would open things up a little more.

 I thought we established a few weeks ago on another thread that there was a downstairs basement level on the Viewliner as well as the Superliner, but we were keeping it hush-hush where the secret passageway was!

Seriously, I specified on the origional post on the other LSL thread that it was downstairs in the ALB station. I was just doing a short recap of the question and didn't elaborate that point!

"Holy Crap!" When I saw that, I thought this was going to be a thread about hopper toilets.
Dem railroad strawberries are supposed to be the sweetest
Talk about memories! As a lad I remember when the car attendant would look the toliets in the stations and announce,"bathrooms will be open 10 minutes out of the station !'The SP used the old pedal models and I thought it was neat to flush it onto the tracks as the train rolled down the line! ;)Dont know if track workers were as thrilled though?LOL
