Hmmmmmmmm several recent post regarding aircraft and airlines, perhaps I signed up for the wrong forum
This thread is about a locomotive. They're simply comparing it to the size of an airplane for scale. :)

As for the other threads, just stay out of the "Non-Rail Transportation" forum. That's where you're going to find the airplane talk. It's really a very small part of the site at large, and it's handy since many of us enjoy traveling by train AND plane, sometimes in the same trip. :)

Very neat comparo! One measure not mentioned is the weight of the aircraft versus the Big Boy....the Big Boy is heavier than any of them, and of course has a far greater load hauling capacity..... :)

If you compared the entire train to any of these aircraft the whole measurement would be turned on its head. From a functional perspective the locomotive is only representing the engines and nose of the aircraft in relative terms. As for pure power output the aircraft in question would win, even when compared to multiple modern locomotives, but that's not exactly a positive factor when you consider the ever increasing cost of fuel and resulting pollution.

Now that would be an interesting contest.....tractive effort versus pounds of thrust......would be some 'tug-o'-war'!..... ;)
