how much of your amtrak tavel is agr travel?

lately, a large percentage of our amtrak trips have been courtesy of agr. i find we get relatively few of our points for actual travel and most of them from the agr master card and other promotions. we save the agr points for long trips in our zone and purchase travel for shorter runs maybe a couple times a year (spk-sea or pdx, for example). how about you?

Most of my points are from travel. I also have an AGR credit card.

I hope to get the 10,000 points from Wyndham in October.

I have had two occasions where I would have used AGR points, but it was

during a blackout period.

Most all of my travel is AGR awards. I'm on #177 right now on one of the few paid segments that I take! But for $9.60 & $15 - with 2X - you can't go wrong! On my LONG trips , I usually buy a $9 & a $29 ticket to fill in the gaps.

I get most points from the AGR credit card & transfers from CO.

CO = Continental Airlines. You can transfer their Onepass miles into AGR points.

I usually have only (gasp) one round trip a year at Thanksgiving. I use points going out to California & pay for the return. I pay for 2 reasons - blackouts & not enough points. Most of my points are from the AGR MasterCard.

Alot of my points comes from the AGR Credit Card. I also use the mall alot but have lost some interest in that since getting your correct point totals can some times be laborious. When the AGR Mall had Famous Footwear the exact shoes I wear at my job and burn up in about 3 or 4 months was on thier website, they would have double points and I would buy 4 pairs of the same shoe. I could really snag a pile of points for something that I needed and they were the exact same price as the store and the shipping was free. There's other shoe websites but they either don't have the shoe that I wear or the price isn't as good or the points are smaller making it a hassle. I really start using the mall in about 3 weeks with Christmas around the corner.

So far all my Amtrak travel has been cash (well actually AGR Credit Card) on the barrel head so I can build up the Points kitty. I am amazed how fast using the card for paying bills online and on other regular expenses adds up.

Besides using points for shopping, as I said I sometimes use CO (Continental Airlines) for shopping. At some places, CO gives more than AGR. And the points transfer to AGR at 1:1 also - so why not earn more? :huh:

As an example, when Staples and Circuit City were on both AGR and CO, they paid 1 point per $ at AGR - but they paid 3 points per $ at CO! So was I wrong to earn 3 times as much at CO - and then transfer them to AGR at 1:1? :huh:

The only thing is transfers from CO to AGR must be done in 5,000 mile blocks. But if you have other CO miles, why not?

I use my AGR credit card for most purchases (including surgery in late 2007 and a funeral in early 2008). I usually redeem one trip a year using my points, however in 2008 I used points for 3 one-way trips. In 2009 so far, I used points for one way of the 2 round trips that I have taken.

Currently, I am in the process of making reservations for a 2010 cross country trip. I will be paying for most of the trip (with my Chase AGR card), however, I hope to redeem one segment of the trip with points.

Still collecting my points, I'd like to collect about 40k so I can do a round trip SDL loophole and come home for free. At this rate it will be quite a while till that happens :lol:
