Looking at all the damage and the freight cars on the ground, that was one hell of a storm. Storm of the century here. Strengthened to 155mph at landfall and without hyperbole, if it had another hour or more in the waters, there is no telling how strong it would of gotten before landfall. It's back in waters again and is restrengthening, it's next stop, Europe. I feel for everyone who lost a lot in the areas hit hard, it's tough to look at the images of the destruction.

Scheduled Service Modified in Due to Tropical StormThursday, October 11, 2018 8:30 p.m. ET Amtrak service in Southeast and Florida affected

Due to severe weather, Amtrak is modifying service to and from Florida and in the Southeast. This message will be updated no later than 6 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 12.

For the safety of our customers and employees, the following train schedules are adjusted:

Amtrak Crescent Trains 19 & 20 (New York – New Orleans) will not operate between Washington, D.C., and Charlotte, N.C., on Thursday night, Oct. 11, and Friday morning, Oct. 12. No substitute transportation will be provided from Charlotte to Washington.

Amtrak Silver Star Trains 91 & 92 (New York – Miami) will operate only between Miami and Jacksonville, Fla., on Friday, Oct. 12. No substitute transportation will be provided between Jacksonville, Fla., and New York.

Amtrak Palmetto Trains 89 & 90 (New York – Savannah) will only operate between New York and Washington, D.C., on Friday, Oct. 12. No substitute transportation will be provided between Washington, D.C., and Savannah, Ga.

Customers with reservations on trains that are being modified will typically be accommodated on trains with similar departure times or another day. Amtrak will gladly waive additional charges for customers looking to change their reservation during the modified schedule by calling our reservation center at 800-USA-RAIL. Anyone planning to travel should check their train status on Amtrak.com or our smartphone apps prior to departing, allow extra time to get to the station and be extremely careful in stations and on platforms.

According to the conductor we presently have clearance to proceed. I would assume if that changes we will likely halt at Florence. Hopefully we'll make it through. We did depart Lorton 30 mins early so we'll see what happens!

Overall the trip was extremely smooth we arrived at Sanford 8:15 (44 minutes early.) I wonder if CSX cancelled some freight service last night. Only stopped for a freight once at Sellers (and we were wicked early into Florence so I definitely won’t blame CSX there) and then just after Florence we stopped and waited for 98 to pass. We passed 52 at the perfect time near Kingstree station and I don’t believe either train had to stop. From that point on it was non stop cruising except for speed limits/slow orders. Saw no rain but you could feel there was a disturbance in the distance when I got out at Florence. I did see some trees rocking and rolling when a jolt woke me up as we were passing the Savannah platforms. Overall no complaints and made it through the storm!!!! Vacation time!
Based on transit docs 97 Meteor made it thru too but seemingly had fright some interference near Savannah.

Turns out the Meteor's delay the night I was traveling was due to a down tree. Last night the Meteor hit flash floods. But appears they are still keeping Meteor and AT running.

And it looks like Carolinian and Piedmont are resuming this morning.

Friday 10/12 update:

Regular Scheduled Train Service ResumesFriday October 12, 2018 4:30 pm ETTrain service impacted due to weather conditions



Amtrak is resuming regular, scheduled service to the Southeast today and Saturday. Service was impacted this week due to severe weather from Hurricane Michael.

• The Silver Star 91 & 92 will operate its regular schedule from New York to Miami on Saturday, Oct. 13.
• The Palmetto 89 & 90 is operating its regular schedule from New York to Savannah, Ga
• The Crescent 19 & 20 s operating its regular schedule from New York to New Orleans.

Yesterday was a bit of a mess in North Carolina due to continued power outages affecting signals and grade crossings between Greensboro and Cary. All trains lost 2-4 hours enroute. As a result 73 and 74 were canceled today.
