It does not say so in the article linked above, but it did in other ones, that the Queen traveled in Premier class. So a simple 39 Euro ticket won't do it to travel like the Queen, at least 109 Euro for Premier are necessary, still at least it is included that Eurostar's team will serve a delicious two course meal and drinks at your seat, with your choice of main course and dessert... :)

Just make sure your train doesn't hit a deer like mine did a couple weeks ago. Bright side is I did get a partial refund for the two hour delay that I didn't even ask for.

What a great publicity opportunity for Eurostar!

Imagine if President Obama rode the train's from Washington to, say Ottawa, to attend some sort of International event or conference....

Just the security headache of guarding the railway would be vast.....

You're reminding me of Biden using either the sequester or the shutdown as an excuse to buck some security measures and take Amtrak rather than flying.

You're also reminding me of the fight between Nelson Rockefeller and the Secret Service...Rockefeller insisted on using his personal jet instead of Air Force Two, and the Secret Service only got him to stop by putting numbers together to tell Rockefeller that it was costing taxpayers more to send the Secret Service agents ahead on commercial fights than he was saving by grounding Air Force Two and flying at his own expense.*

*No word on whether this was actually true, but it was pre-deregulation.

Public figures in Europe often travel by rail. Just a few weeks ago I was on the London tube (Circle Line) and Boris Johnson, the current Mayor of London, walked onto my carriage... sans entourage.

The last President to regularly travel via Train was Harry Truman although Eisenhower occasionally rode the Train and Candidates still use Specials for Whistle Stopping! AFAIK the Last Funeral Train for a Politician was Eisenhower's from WAS to Kansas!

In the 70s Nixon regularly flew Commercial (anyone remember Eastern Airlines?) to Florida!

Bill Clinton and Al Gore preferred Buses!!??? As was said Amtrak Joe still occasionally rides Accela FC home to Delaware and numerous Congress Critters and Senators ride between WAS and NYP!
