Interesting discovery.

I purchased my (original brand) computer ink cartridge through the Amtrak Guest Rewards Shopping Mall Office Depot portal with instore pickup and discovered that it was $19 there and $25 in the store. Office Depot also gives you $3 in shopping points with each cartridge recycled through the store if you sign up for their rewards program. I like this.

Well, to myself, it's great that rewards are offered for purchasing ink through Office Depot, but nowhwere on the OD site was there a space to enter the AGR # and todate, no point. HMMMM.... still a better price than in person.

Normally when you click through from the shopping mall site to the merchant a special URL is passed that flags your session as being points earning so you don't have to give the rewards ID.

I recently bought ink cartriges from Office Depot and at first the AGR info with my AGR# was included in the address bar.

HOWEVER, when I went to checkout guess what? All the AGR information disappeared from the address bar and there was no indicators after processing the purchase either through a web page or in the email confirmation.

I tried calling Office Depot, but I might as well have been talking to one of my cats! They didn't know what I was talking about and after explaining the situation and give them feedback as to what I suspected the problem was, well... quite honestly they acted like they could care less.

Anyway, I called AGR, explained what happened and was advised to keep my receipt, wait 6 weeks and if no points are processed to call back for instructions. I would advise the guest to do likewise!

Nice experience for my first attempt at buying anything through the shopping mall huh? <_<

Same thing happened to me at Overstock.com. Now the AGR member DID show up in the url SID=12345456, but there is always the chance that during your "browsing" around the site, a bad link from the merchant could "kill" your AGR number. When I talked to AGR, they basically said the same thing. "Print out a copy of your invoice, or better yet, take a screen shot SHOWING your AGR number in the url, save them, and IF your points don't show up in 90 days or whatever, send copies of all to AGR........"

At least you got a good price! ;)

Not only did I get a good price, but there was an offer for a free pack of AA batteries. I think it was an 8 pack! :)

Holy crow! I'm shocked!! I actually got my points posted today!!!

I always ordered from Office Depot and usually picked it up at the store. But now that Office Depot closed most of their stores in the Northeast, that is not an option any more! :( (But I did find some stores in PDX! :D ) Now I'm just down to Best Buy, Norstroms (sp?) and Sears that offer free and immediate local store pickup.

Now theres the travelers favorite word(and mine!)FREE!Do they give points for the free batteries?LOL!
Yes! You can get unlimited "Free" points. :D
Tell me more! :p I could use those unlimited free points on my unlimited trips around the country!

I just realized that I made a big mistake and have to fess up to it! I've been stating that it was Office Depot that I ordered from when in fact it was OfficeMax. I probably still wouldn't realize it if you hadn't mentioned Office Depot closed most of their stores in the northeast. As Vinnie Barbarino used to say... "I get so confused!!

Anyway, when I say unlimited free points that's exactly what I mean... "Free" points and not "AGR" points! Good luck trying to trading in those babies for free Amtrak travel!
