Was wondering what the station is like in Kingman, Arizona. I'll be boarding there in the middle of the night. If the Chief is late and I have to be there for awhile, how safe is it? Is there an open building, or would I be waiting outside? Are there likely to be other passengers also waiting?

This link will show you what the station and area look like.

Thanks for the pictures. That's a nice looking station and I'm sure it'll look even better after renovations. Have they finished the renovations?

What's it like at night? It will be a week night, not a weekend. Can I expect to have other passengers waiting with me?

The Amtrak waiting room is still located across the street at 106 North Fourth Street. It is opened by a caretaker from 1:00am to 5:30am daily, just for the arrival and departure of the Southwest Chief trains. I believe the station shown in those pictures is still undergoing renovations.

Other passengers will be waiting at the station as well so you shouldn't be alone there. Kingman, AZ is also Amtrak's connecting point for thruway motorcoach service to Laughlin, Nevada and Las Vegas, Nevada so additional passengers will arrive and depart on that shuttle from the Kingman station at train time as well.

KNG has been undergoing renovations for the better part of a decade

As an added comment, I have not boarded the train at Kingman, but have stopped in my car to assess the situation. Yes, as others have told you, the station is " closed for renovations " and the waiting room is in a storefront about a half block away across the main drag. . For your added benefit, the adjacent storefron t is a train crew register room, so you should not be marooned in the middle of the night with no one to assist. Happy travels.
