We rode the TX Eagle from Chicago to San Antonio to meet up with the Sunset Limited to take us home to Lake Charles, La. The Metropolitan Lounge at Union Station is very nice-free luggage storage, wifi, and free refreshments. It was spacious and quiet and the attendants were very nice. We walked through the Great Hall and on to Lou Mitchell's for breakfast. We boarded the train at 1:45, too late for lunch. Dinner was very good, though, crab enchiladas. The ride across Illinois was nice-large farms and small town America. The sunset behind the St. Louis Arch was beautiful. When we woke up in TX the landscape was green instead of brown. We went through some interesting-looking old towns and past several large cattle ranches. The station at San Antonio was not much(crowded and noisy). We had to wait there until 12:30 am (3 1/2 hours) for the SL. It was late coming in. Even though the TX Eagle sat there all that time, we had to get off immediately. The SL was 1 1/2 hours late getting into LCH.
Even with a few inconveniences, this was a wonderful trip. We're anxious to take another one. Thanks again to this forum for all of your help.
