Most interestingly, this is an all new 'ligne a grande vitesse' that does not serve or radiate from Paris. It'll plug a very promising gap, with lots of new international services also likely.

On the other hand, it will consign another meandering but exceptionally comfortable regional Corail route to the history books. About four years ago I had a very enjoyable trip from Strasbourg to Lyon in unrefurbished closed compartment Corail carriages along this slow but scenic route. The old SNCF is gradually disappearing...
