It looks like going from Kansas City MO to Columbus WI is a valid route. Would this also be a one zone reward like the Omaha NE to Columbus WI is? If so, since I am currently laid off I'll be off on a another trip! :lol: Can anyone confirm this for me? Thanks!!
I just took this trip three weeks ago as an AGR 1 zone Award for 15,000 points in roomettes. If you come from CHI you wont have to change trains
as the SWC runs direcxt CHI-KCY and arrives @ 10PM or so @ night and leaves around 11PM. The KCY Union Station is a great place, if you have time be sure and take a look, the Amtrak counter/waiting room is upstairs from ther platform, reachable by stairs or elevator. The Great Halls are like CHI and WAS, just more of them.
If you come from STL there is a morning and afternoon River Runner, the evening train runs from CHI as a Lincoln Service train, youd only have about an hour layover in KCY before you caught the SWC, if you rode the morning train it would be an 8 hour layover. The River Runner is a nice run along the river and through pretty countryside, you can go biz class too!
Of course the run from KCY-LAX on the Chief, then the trip on the CS from LAX-PDX is great, then the EB from PDX-SPK-CBS, I bought a coach ticket from CBS-CHI, they let me stay in my room to CHI, lunch is over by the time you reach CBS so no harm done!(be sure and ask your SCA!)
5 nights/5 days on the train is a great deal, if you wanna really get value and have the points take bedrooms for the trip!!Have a great trip, give us a report!
