Think there will be a 48-hour moratorium for this one?

Man up tree in Seattle halts commuter train
SEATTLE —
Sound Transit Sounder commuter trains from Everett have been stopped by a man up a tree in Seattle near a bridge in the Ballard area.

Sound Transit says two trains were forced to stop Friday morning and those passengers are being put on buses at Edmonds.

Meanwhile, police and firefighters are trying to deal with the man who climbed about 40 feet up a tree near the tracks.

The man has been taking off his clothes and tying them to branches.

Suspect up Seattle tree comes down after 3 hours
A man climbed down from a tree Friday morning after a three-hour standoff with Seattle police that blocked railroad tracks and halted seven trains.

KOMO Radio reports (http://bit.ly/15WwJct) the man was placed in handcuffs about 8:30 a.m.

Police said the man is suspected of breaking windows at an ex-girlfriend's house about 5:30 a.m. and injuring a man's leg.

The suspect climbed about 40 feet up a tree next to the tracks in the Magnolia neighborhood near the Ballard railroad bridge. He was taking off clothes and tying them to branches.

While a police negotiator tried to talk the man down, a fire department rescue team was standing by.

Burlington Northern Santa Fe spokesman Gus Melonas (mel-OWN'-us) says the activity delayed four Sound Transit, one Amtrak and two freight trains.

What led the man to these strange heights? Well, there's a decent chance the impetus for his tree scaling had to do with the fact that police believe the man broke into his ex-girlfriend's house 10 blocks away and busted some windows ... in addition to her male roommate's leg or foot.

But perhaps it was much simpler than that. As KOMO reports, when asked why he was up in the tree the man replied succinctly, "I like to climb."

Burglary suspect up a tree in Magnolia 3 hours before surrendering to police
A suspect in a burglary and assault perches in a tree in Seattle’s Magnolia neighborhood early Friday. He initially yelled for help, then refused urgings from police to come down until three hours later.

The incident halted all rail traffic through the area, including the Sounder commuter train, as hostage negotiators urged the man to come down from his spot about 40 feet off the ground near railroad tracks south of the Ballard Locks.

The suspect, identified by police as Victor A. Mason, 38, had threatened to harm himself while up in the tree, police said.

Seattle police Detective Mark Jamieson said Friday’s events started about 2 a.m., when Mason allegedly went to his ex-girlfriend’s home in the 4600 block of 33rd Avenue, forced his way inside and assaulted her male roommate.

The roommate suffered a broken foot in the attack and was taken to a hospital for treatment.

Mason came back to the house at about 5 a.m. and broke out some windows, Jamieson said. The ex-girlfriend fled, and was later located unharmed.

A police officer investigating the broken-window complaint was flagged down by a motorist who had heard someone calling for help, possibly near the railroad tracks near 34th Avenue West and Gilman Place West.
