Here is my trip to Califorina via the California Zephyr, Coast Starlight and Pacific Surfliner
Day 1 left Chicago on-time. Was great to get lunch made at a table. Going to Califorina, They did communal dining. Which was great to meet different people along the way. Dinner was amazing steak cook perfectly.
Day 2 got into Denver about an hour late. Hit a deer in Iowa and lost air brakes. Had Railroad French Toast which was amazing. They had a full train from Denver to Glenwood Springs, CO. So, they did a rotating SSL till Glenwood Springs. The views was amazing.. The full colors was just amazing..
Day 3 got into Emeryville about 30 mins late.. Was running late all day.. They had a medical emeregncy at Sacramento.. Sounding like someone fell down the stairs from the SSL. Had to be taking away by ambulance.
2 days in Emeryville
Day 5 Take the Coast Starlight heading to Santa Barbara. I did business class was nothing special IMO. about a 9 hour train ride and was on-time.
Day 6 Take the Pacific Surfliner to Oceanside. I did business class again. They gave water or pop and snacks this time.
6 Days later roaming around Califorina
Day 12 Talk the Pacific Surfliner to Santa Barbara was on-time and did business class again. Then PACKED Overnight Bus though the backroads of CA because of the fire in Santa Barbara.. Highway 101 was closed.
Day 13 Taking the California Zephyr back to Chicago. This time at lunch, it was NOT communal dining. I sat by myself the whole time. I was in Car 640. It was okay but it seemed like the car guy was mia a lot.
Day 14 Still on the Zephyr... Had Railroad french toast for breakfast. Had the ceaser salad for Lunch. Had the Steak for Dinner. and had real silverware on the way back. Chocolate cake is a amazing...
Day 15 Still on the Zephyr.. They decide to stop at Lincoln, NE and get a wheel checked out. So, that cost time and 4hr late leaving Lincoln. So, i got in 3hr late in Chicago. People messed there connections left and right fell sorry for them but i got my train home and my trip was over.
Overall..... It was a great trip and lot of different train rides. I don't know if i'll do that overnight bus again (that was a first for me) couldn't sleep.
Thanks for reading this mess of a log lol...
