Led by NSO Assistant Conductor Ankush Kumar Bahl and featuring WUSA Channel 9's Andrea Roane as host, the National Symphony performs two full "train-themed" concerts at Union Station.

SIBELIUS: Finlandia

MARQUEZ: Danzon No. 2

IBERT: Suite Symphonique, "Paris"

OFFENBACH: "Barcarolle" from Tales of Hoffman

OFFENBACH: "Can Can" from Gaite Parisienne

J. STRAUSS Jr.: Pleasure Train Polka

J. STRAUSS Jr.: On the Beautiful Blue Danube, Waltz

Free. Seating is limited and on a first-come, first-served basis.
Probably going to try and hit the 3:00 show.
 
This is a really excellent program of (mostly) train-related music. I think I will put together a playlist. I had heard some of the pieces, but many are new to me. That Marquez piece is really nice.
 
That will be a fantastic program. Love the harmonic motion heard in Finlandia; from the first measure to the last.

Maybe it shouldn't be a surprise, when one considers the similarities between well run rail operations and composing classical music, but a number of composers were railfans. Brahms and Dvorak might be the two biggest 'perfoamers.' :)
