I am looking at taking a AGR ticket from Richmond, VA to Bangor, ME. Since Portland to Bangor would be on a bus does that keep it within the NEC or does it end up being a one zone trip.

I'm not sure. The best way to find out is to call AGR and ask.
But if they say no, here's an idea. Book a northeast region award from Richmond to ONE STOP PRIOR to Portland - and then BUY a ticket from there to Bangor (instead of paying 2,500 more points)!
