New Anaheim Station

I know this is an old thread that has just been resurrected, but does anyone know which hotel and restaurant will be torn down for the trolley station? As for the restaurant, I hope its not Denny's. They're one of the few places left with reasonably priced meals, even if that particular site is pretty old.

As far as I can tell there are no current plans to do this. The OC Streetcar system is under construction though, but not a separate line from ARTIC to Disneyland.

As for Denny's, I was actually there recently at the location across from Disneyland. If you want reasonable, what you would need to do is look up what specials can be ordered online and then ask a server. They didn't have any kind of printed menu with their specials. My server had to go the kitchen to ask if they could make what I asked for, which was a Moons over My Hammy omelette ($8.59 that day). Any similar omelette was about $4-5 more.

There were two affordable restaurants in the general area that were worth a damn Marri's Pizza and Belisle's. Both have been gone for decades.

ARTIC has been bought by the owners of the Honda stadium from the city. The new owners have a plan to redevelop the area around the station and Honda stadium. This redevelopment is called OCVibe and it is expected to start at the end of 2022 and be finished by 2028 for the Olympics.

I don't think the station has been sold. It looks like they're incorporating publicly owned facilities into their plans even though they're not the developer's property. As far as I can tell, the city still owns the arena and ARTIC.

I did a walk from the station to across the street from Disneyland since the OCTA strike foiled my plans to take the 50 bus. There are a ton of mid-rise apartment/condo/office developments (that contain some retail/restaurants) along Katella. I'm not sure it's quite like the "transit first" theme of many of these developments around here. However, I see them all over now in my area. And there are quite a few near train stations, although I'm not sure that deliberate or because those are prime locations. Northing is particularly built deliberately to be near the Berkeley (the 4th and U development) or Oakland-Jack London stations, although the bus bays for OKJ are built into condos/apartments. And the old EMY lot became part of the footprint of an office building.

Unless OCTA and ART are the same thing strike wise, you can still take ART (Anaheim resort transit) from the station by using the call a ride feature.

Definitely thought of that. I have the A-Way WeGo app on my phone and tablet. I've gotten somewhat familiar with using ART with my kid on two trips ($6 each for a day pass) and we mostly went on on-demand rides. It was kind of weird with the two of us as the only passengers door to door most of the time on buses that seated up to 30. We took maybe a single scheduled route getting back to our hotel, but that was from Disneyland after fireworks, so they devote most of their buses to scheduled routes around that time with Disneyland visitors trying to get back to their hotels.

I took thruway bus 4718 from Bakersfield, which was scheduled to arrive at 3:15 AM. But it arrived maybe right at 4:00 AM and the first OCTA 50 was scheduled to leave ARTIC at 4:03. I got there to see a sign posted by OCTA mentioning that their mechanics' union was on strike and there would be no service. The first (scheduled) ART bus of the day (#15 ARTIC Express Line) would have left at 5:55 AM and I wasn't going to stick around that long when I could walk. The station building wasn't open and it was kind of cold. I though just keeping moving would help keep the hypothermia away.

Paid a little bit more attention to this, and certainly there are parking lots that are being developed over, although the ownership of that land may be complicated. By removing the parking they're obviously going to be relying on public transportation to get there.

Right now ART doesn't go directly to the Honda Center. The closest they get is the Ayres Hotel or ARTIC which is close. I'd think maybe they would consider going directly or at the very least having a stop on that side of Katella.

This was a little bit more complicated than I thought. The ocVibe project is headed by the Samueli family (Henry Samueli was the founder of Broadcom) that owns the Ducks and now operates ARTIC and the Honda Center. Those are still owned by the city of Anaheim. So this is all integrated together since they're charged with the operation of those publicly-owned facilities. Not sure what the deal is with the land that they're going to build on - whether it's a long-term lease or if it was sold to the project. But their family has a long term agreement to manage ARTIC and the Honda Center.
