New Orleans Amtrak Station Area

Yes, last December. From the train depot, just walk out the front and cross into the middle of the street to get on the streetcar, it is very obvious. Part of the time I had a car and parking at the depot was much less than at the motel so I made that trip often. Check the schedule, it is quicker to walk it instead of waiting sometimes. Nobody bothered me even by myself, late at night, with the wheelchair packed full.

These directions sound more like the next stop from the station as there's no need to cross into the middle of any street.Hauling your luggage and, as Google Maps will show, trying to cross that mishmash of an intersection at Loyola and Howard is not necessary.

The beginning and end of the line for the the Loyola-UPT (Union Passenger Terminal) streetcar is right at the station.

Walk out the front doors and immediately turn right, stay on the sidewalk, walk for a minute or so toward the highway overpass and you'll see the covered streetcar bay.

There are buses there too so look for the streetcar bay, the one closest to the highway with the rails.

If the Greyhound side doors are open, that's even closer but that side of the station is where the Loyola-UPT streetcar ends and begins.

Has anyone just taken the street car from the New Orleans Amtrak station to their hotel in the French Quarter? It looks like our place is about a block off the line which would not be that bad of a walk w/ our limited luggage?

Yup! Runs every half hour. Walk out of station building and go right, curving away from building. Don't forget, if you are 65+, you pay lower fare although on one trip our driver seemed grumpy that I knew that info and told him what our fares would be.

MiRider: Thanks for the info on the station streetcar. I don't think that stop was there the last time we visited NOL, which has been about three years ago. I like the streetcars and will check that out next time.
