New to Amtrak and train travel...

Hi!

I am excited to be embarking on my first train journey this summer. I will be traveling with my two sons (19 and 13 at time of travel) from San Diego to Seattle for a cruise to Alaska. I have been reading (lurking) on AU for about 3 weeks and decided to start posting today. I have already learned so much about Amtrak from this site. Thanks for all the posts!

Welcome Denise and glad to hear you've learned things here! Same for me and I was already a longtime rider when I joined. The people here are knowledgeable and I pick up something new just about every day. Great idea to take the train to a ship because it feels like you'll have two vacations in one.

That's exactly how I thought. Not to mention, driving to Seattle wasn't a thrilling thought (although I have driven across country quite a few times). I will be renting a car and driving from Seattle to Sacramento when the journey is over. (The rest of the fam will be finishing up at summer camp.) It wound up being a bit more than plan fare, but with staying in a deluxe bedroom, meals included, leave the driving to us... I am going to be reading a lot... and enjoying the coast and cascades! The boys... I am sure they will be entertained!
