Aloha

I seem to remember most time the paper was a local paper but have also received USA Today on some trips, never paid much attention, And as I now think about it I prefer the regional paper.

I think on the Lake Shore Limited earlier this month, I got USA Today in at least one direction. Pretty sure it was a national paper in both directions in any case.
I took the Lake Shore Limited recently in both directions. Out of Chicago we got the NY Times. Westbound on the way back, we got USA Today.

That may very well have been exactly what I got. I was not really paying much attention, especially returning eastbound after my father had given me some books, one of which I was finding far more interesting than either a Diner Lite breakfast (in the sense that I stayed awake reading it far, far too late, thus causing a decision the following morning to sleep through breakfast) or a newspaper.

Last time I was on the eastbound LSL, I got the Times, which they picked up in Buffalo. I was very pleased, being an avid Times reader.

On the City of New Orleans, we got Newspaper-lite, USA Today - went along with Diner-Lite.

I would have loved the Times.

Getting USA Today is like a mint on your pillow at the local hotel. Getting the NY Times is like getting a whole box of chocolates.

I like that description of USA Today ---- "Newspaper-lite" I think I might even beging to use it as a description. Thanks for that suggestion. :D

My understanding was that Amtrak has arrangements with USA Today for weekdays and local papers on weekends, when USA Today does not publish.
