Just watched another NS Commercial on TV that shows a Coal Train in Los Angeles entitled "Keeping the Lights on!".

Does NS run Coal Trains to LA? I thought that was UP and BNSF Territory!!

I assume you mean we don't have coal power generated in California -- about 40% of Los Angeles Department of Water & Power electricity comes from coal, but all of that is generated in Arizona and Utah.

Like most major corporations today, the railroads run "image" ads to elevate their public perception. Not like in the days when they ran ads aimed at the consumer....

I did think the CSX "How tomorrow moves" was clever, though.

The commercials are designed to remind the general public, "hey you know those noisy freight trains that block crossings on your way to work, they're actually extremely important to the economy and the nation in general."

NS has a commercial where 2 Engineers are standing alongside a Locomotive recalling the "good" Railroad related things they accomplished today; I keep waiting for one to add to his list "and I managed to tie up Amtrak for 5 hours."
