Flooding is being eyed as the cause of this derailment. The link has pictures of the scene. They estimate restoration in a day or two. In the meantime, the Crescent is terminating/originating at BHM until the track open.

HILLSDALE, MS (WSPA) - Flash flooding caused a train to derail in southern Mississippi, early Saturday morning.

According to CBS affiliate WLOX, the Norfolk Southern train derailed in the Hillsdale community of Pearl River County.

I’m Surprised they are turning in Birmingham vs. Atlanta. Would turning in Atlanta be extra difficult right now? Or should I give Amtrak credit for going the extra few miles?

It was likely already too late to accomplish much at ATL. 20(12) is originating at BHM.

Sounds like the are planning on running 19 and 20 all the way through today.

#20 only lost less than 30 minutes going through the site of the wreck.
