The subway and regular bus service cost $2.50 a ride if you are using a refillable MetroCard and $2.75 if you are using a single ride MetroCard. If you go to web.mta.info there is a ton of information about fares, schedules, routes etc. One other thing, the Airtrain to JFK requires it's own fare, separate from the fare paid to get to it's station. In other words, if you take the A train to Howard Beach to connect to the Airtrain you would then have to pay the Airtrain fare before boarding.
