Hello dear Amtrak experts

In a few months time we'll (2 pers.) be traveling from NYC to NOLA by train and have bought a bedroom for the journey. However, I have a question regarding the meals included in the price. I know it is lunch, breakfast and dinner, and on amtrak.com the general timeslots are listed. But our train leaves NYC 2.15 pm and arrives in NOLA the next evening at 7.30 pm if on schedule. Lunch reservations are from 11:30 am to 3:00 pm and the dinner reservation times from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm. No reservations are required for breakfast.

I'm sorry I'm so detail oriented, but if reading that page, there would be time for BOTH lunch and dinner on Saturday and breakfast, lunch and dinner Sunday. I would understand if thats not the case and I would bring some food myself, however IF all those meals are included, it would be awsome!

Has anyone any experience with the meals?

Thank you.

Btw, how's the train doing at the moment regarding keeping it's schedule? Are severe delays more often than only rare?

They will not serve lunch out of NY. Those times they are given are guidelines for normal seving hours but are not to be taken with complete literalness. You will get dinner that day and all three meals the second day.If running on time into NOL the meal will be kind of early and kind of brief, because a dining car has to close up for business, not just"stop" when the train terminates

Check google Amtrak Train Status history, put in 19 for the train number, NOL for the station and check it for the last four weeks..You will see it has performing reasonably well.

A suggestion: for your first days dinner,it is a good idea for eat dinner before Washington, D.C. This because usually a lot more people board in WAS than in NYC. Thus, the diner will be more crowded, service more slow, etc .

Finally, if you are returning by train you will get breakfast out of NOl and all other meals. But, if running on time northbound lunch into NYC will be early and quick just as dinner is into NOL southbound. And for the same reason-- the crew has to shut down the diner, clean up, take stock, count the money, etc.

Just another tidbit; going back to NYP eat before you arrive in Atlanta. The masses board in Atlanta and sometimes they have to shut down the HEP for mechanical reasons so that gives you two reasons to make an early reservation. If you need a third they may be out of your entree before you get seated if you make a late seating reservation.

hello.....

here's little info on eating in the diner on 19/20:

day 1 dinner only . the seating is at 430pm and last one is at 830 . diner closes at 9pm'

day2 breakfast is from 630am to 10 am with break in atlanta (its service stop) its 1st come and 1st serve .

lunch by res and its from 1200 to 2 pm

dinner is also by res however short due to the 730 arrival in nola.

Now lately 19 (well my train) we have only late 2 but it was minor. Matter of fact one trip we arrive at 650 pm.
