Hi folks,

Just had a nice few days in Bhubaneshwar. Fell prey to a touch of Delhi belly,in Delhi :) Good ride down here, train a little older but staff more relaxed. Food good, very similar to 1st train. Visited Konark and several impressive temples in town. My travel laptop has died, so no new pictures to upload today. Shortly off to station for Konark Express to Mumbai. Will write a full account when I get the laptop fixed. 33 degrees Celsius in sunny Bhubaneshwar. Cheers,

Ed.

You can follow his progress at

http://indiarailinfo.com/train/konark-express-11020-bbs-to-cstm/946/238/1620

If that does not work, just do a Google search of "Konarak Express" and select the 11020 one to get the right direction.

Click on the "map" tab to see his current location. I am assuming he is on the Wednesday departure., but of course even the Tuesday departure is visible on the map.

As of 9:30am EDT Wednesday (19:00IST) his train appears to be running on time. To get details click on his train and then select "Show full arr/dep listing". This will pop up a window with full details of known times at each time checkpoint. Some will be n/a if they don;t have a reported time from there. Usually all the stops will have a time and on time status displayed. And boy stations codes - do you need to know the station codes. :) A railfan's paradise ;)

Good to check in a couple of hours and see how it is doing at VSKP (Visakhapatnam on the map), and then again at BZA (Vijaywada on the map). Remember, the current time difference between EDT and IST is 9hr 30min.

Arrived safe and sound in Mumbai. Hats off to Mahatma Gandhi, today is his birthday. Big thumbs up from me, as it made getting to my hotel easier... many people celebrating at Gateway to India monument as businesses are closed.

Cheers,

Ed.

Incidentally, the Gateway of India was built in 1911 to commemorate the visit to India by King George V and Queen Mary that year. It was completed in 1924 and was used as the entry point by many Viceroys and Governors when they arrived by ship Typically they would arrive there and then board the Imperial Mail or such prestigious trains which ran on a siding to the harbor, to proceed to the interior and more specifically, typically to Calcutta or Delhi. The trains were then segregated with Anglos separated from the natives. We have come a long way since then.
