I agree with fillyjonk--a special pet car would be fine.I love animals, especially dogs, but allergies are a very serious problem. I am highly allergic to cats. Even the pet carrier wouldn't help. When I visit friends who have cats, I cannot be in their homes for more than half an hour before my eyes are red and itchy, and I start coughing (and no, I do not pet the cats--the allergy is there anyway).
