Has anyone done any shopping for points at Target? The website says you get 8 points for each dollar spent and free shipping. I've never done any shopping for points. I want to be sure that I understand it. It sounds like a good way to start Christmas shopping. Thank you.

I personally have not used Target, so I can't say how quick it is. But others I have use, it it easy and painless! (Just be sure to enter the site via the Points For Shopping portal, and keep the confirmation receipt until the points post! ;) )

The way I look at it is - Why not earn AGR points for something you will do anyway?

Some sites (such as Best Buy, Sears, Nordstroms and Office Depot) even offer in-store pickup. So you can order something online, drive 10 minutes to the store, have your printer ink [or whatever] within an hour - and earn AGR points for it!

I've done quite a bit of shopping for points. Some merchants are bertter than others re shipping and also getting your points posted. Just because a merchant is featured by Amtrak on the opening screen in the online mall doesn't mean they have a good record for posting points. I bought a handbag from shoebuy.com partly because they offered 7 points per dollar. I could have bouught the same item at other Amtrak partner retailers with only 1 or 2 points per dollar. The purchase never posted. The shoebuy customer service people were clueless about AGR and I finally had to have AGR staff research and post the points. They didn't get any cooperation from the retailer either and finally posted the item with a generic identifier on the basis of my info. Shopping for points merchants that I have used with good experience include Macy's, Overstock, Alibris (used books), Walgreens. Target had been mixed - sometimes their shipping is slow. But last year I got a great deal on a tabletop Christmas tree and it was shipped quickly.

I'm going through it right now with Shoebuy. I bought roughly $134 during their 22 points-per-dollar period this August. That's almost 3,000 AGR points. Anyway, I have called them and they are having a manager research it. That has been for about a week.

I did order another pair of shoes in later September (11 points/dollar), and that posted no problem about a month later.

SO, if Shoebuy doesn't come through on their own in the next couple of weeks, I'm going let AGR have at it with them.

Do points via the shopping portal take a long time to post with AGR? I do it with my American AAdvantage account sometimes and it usually takes 6 weeks. Often when I'll see something like "Barnes and Noble E-Shopping Mall: 48 Miles" I'll try to remember what i bought in the first place!

Most partners post fast. (Like within 4 weeks.) Some take a long time. (I joined Netflix via AGR in March - and the points never posted! ) But because most are quick and without problem, I'll keep using it!
