Still no 8/20 Bonus points as of today but did have my September AGR MC points post, bothe the Amtrak Travel (2x1!!!) and other purchases too!

Seems like they are catching up from the summer, getting ready for the fall double points bonanza and preparing for all the rail fanatics that will be hitting Boston for The Gathering! (it helps that the traveler has stayed home in RI so theyre not busy with his millions of points!) Hope everyone is getting caught up and ready for an exciting fall or rail trips and rail fun! Ill probably have to ride to Taylor again for REAL Bar-B-Q and the 400 points! (its a 30 minute ride each way!) You KC and NC guys can have your dry/vinegar infested so called bar-b-q, well eat the good smoked meat down here!

(How can you tell a new comer to Texas, he calls Bar-B-Qing"grilling"!!! :)

Them's fightin' words. This Yankee can tell you that the ne plus ultra of barbecue is the pig served at Lexington Barbecue #1, in Lexington, N.C.

Yesterday I booked a 20k point, one-zone AGR bedroom reward from Denver to St. Paul via Sacramento and Portland for next Memorial Day. Four nights, three trains, a return of 11 cents per point. I was amazed at how smoothly it went. No arguments about the circuity of the route, or about whether it should be one or two zones. Just here are your bedroom locations and can I help you with anything else. The confirmation e-mail even gave a little more information about the routing, though still without train numbers. Compared to some of the other disagreeable clerks I've spoken to at AGR, I give "Gladys" a big thumbs up.

Kudoos for the trip, I have a similar one in November! Well agree to disagree about the meat, I been to NC and KC many times (my dad was from carolina), its a joke really about comparing, its all good when it comes to Bar-B-Q!! I personally dont like the vinegar but ribs and brisket and pork, umm

umm good no matter where! Even the turkey and chicken are great so guess Ill FORCE myself to eat some when Im in KCY this fall!

Have a great trip!

You guy's keep fighting about BBQ (I prefer pork over beef ;) )- I'll be eating LOB-STAH while I wait! :p

A little historical lesson - In NE a couple hundred years ago, did you know that they fed lobster as a regular meal TO PRISONERS! The reason was that this garbage (lobster) was not "good enough" for "normal" people to eat!

You have a great trip yourself! Any barbecue is good, though I'll agree that it's personal taste as to what's best. I've always wanted to tour the Texas League, combining my love for road trips, barbecue, and minor league baseball. All I have to do is convince She Who Must Be Obeyed, who'd rather be on a train than riding shotgun in a car.

Traveler, weren't there also strikes in 19th century New England textile mills when the workers were fed salmon more than one a week? Probably it was cheaper than salt pork then.

Guess I gotta come to new England to get FREE LOBSTER!!! Beef fajitas, which are now the rage all over North america,

used to be scrap meat that they called "dog bones" and it was given away by butchers, it was so tough and stringy the poor statred cooking it and adding spices and various veggies and so now its expensive and trewndy but still its Skirt Steak!! (theres no sucha thing as chicken or fish fajitas, thats a marketing version of chop suey as Chinese food!)

The baseball thing I dig, the Texas Leauge only has three teams left, the resat are in Arkansas and Oklahoma!

San Antonio and Frisco (a Dallas suburb) can be reached on Amtrak, Corpus is on the coast reachable by dog or driving!

Our local team, Round Rock Express (Nolan Ryan owns both RR and the Corpus teams)have a really first rate park (Dell Field of the computer Dells) and the stadium in Corpus is pretty nice too! San Antonios is an old/"new" stadium but still not bad! Ive never been in Frisco???

Once you convince the boss maybe someseason you can ride the Eagle down to Dallas, go a Ranger game (they play in Arlington next to the new Cowboy Taj Mahal0, Frisco, ride down to austin, catch the Express, drive or dog to Corpus for some baseball and beach time (its 150 miles SE of here), then SAS for the SA Missions, then hop the Sunset too Houston to see the poor Astros (my team, what can I say)!

I cherish my visits to Wrigley,Fenway and the old Yankee stadium, theyre going fast! Once upon a time back in the day I was a ball player for one glorious year in the Giants system, so my first loves, trains and baseball go together like apple pie and motherhood! Enjoyed the info, thanks! :)

The trouble was, you were playing BASEBALL for the FOOTBALL Giants! I'm surprised that they kept you around so long!
So thats why they released me after spring trainin g, I was trying to play baseball for a football team!

Must have been all the lobster they gave us! :D (actually the meal money on the road in Class D was $5 a day, so we loved hot dogs and mom and pop diners and small town cafes! ) And no trains or planes, we rode busess all night and loved it! Id do it tomorrow if theyd let me! :) (not to mention the really nice tourist courts, rooming houses and garage apartments! Those were the days my friend!)

The problem with taking the train for a Ranger game is that you can get to Dallas by train but to get to Arlington you would have to rent a car since there is no public transportation in that city.

The stop in Taylor, Texas is only about ten miles from the Dell Diamond but I don't know how you are going to get from Taylor to Round Rock except by car.
