Hi Folks,

Just planning a train trip in Poland, and wondering if it is ok to buy tickets at the station on the day of travel?

I already have a ticket from Berlin to Warsaw, and just need a ticket from Warsaw Central to Krakow on a Sunday.

If advance purchase is recommended, any pointers to an easy website to use?

Any advice welcomed !

Polrail charges commission AFAK, for official website use rozklad-pkp.pl/en although I'm not sure if you can buy tickets without a Polish bank account but it will let you know what sort of commission polrail charges if nothing else

Seat61.com might help: Buying a ticket within Poland

Just bare in mind that seat61 whilst very very good will tend to recommend sites that pay him a commission which is understandable when he is giving all his time and money free otherwise

Thanks all for the advice and info.

I have now booked that section online via "pkp intercity", the cost was just under £20, or about $28 USD. The train itself is said to be a modern "Pendolino" design, and should take about 2.5 hours to cover the 180 miles.

The trip will start this Thursday, cross country to Harwich. Ferry to Holland, and a few days in a small town, then train to Berlin for a few days, and on again to Warsaw, and Krakow. Fly back to Nottingham from Krakow. I turn 64 on this trip, so it is a bit of a birthday treat. :)

Hi,

I will be staying in Bovenkarspel. Thinking behind this choice is that it has a couple of small hotels that offer good prices, and is within easy reach of Amsterdam if I should choose to visit there. Hotel prices in Amsterdam itself always seem to be pretty eye watering to this budget travel senior!
