Possible abandonment of Canadian National into Chicago?

Judging from all the work CN has done on this (and I know it's an old thread) - tie replacement, etc - the main ex-IC mainline through the south side, it's unlikely that it'll be abandoned anytime soon. And yes, Metra owns the Electric District tracks. The St. Charles air line itself is narrow but could be developed in places, but not on the lakefront.
 
I was about to whack one of the posters for referring to Mayor Daley . . . and then saw the date of the post. Resurrecting old threads gets me confused.
 
The CREATE proposal to route passenger trains off the CN at 79th Street onto the NS is still alive, which would make a straighter shot into Union Station, but there's no actual construction work going on. Meanwhile, the St. Charles Airline is still there and Mayor Daley has left office, so no need to lose any sleep over this.
