hi - i know i asked this before so i am sorry but i need a little reassurance if possible :)

please tell if its unlikely that all trains from PVD to NYP friday 8/31 wont totally sell out.. i know i might have to pay top dollar but as long as i get a seat and oh RT too :) (same date)

You'll probably be able to find a seat on some train... but remember it is the start of a holiday weekend.

In my opinion it is very unlikely that all the trains from PVD to NYP will sell out on Friday, even considering it is the Friday of Labor Day Weekend. Some trains may be sold out, but not all.

Given the date, take a look at the Acela's. With business travel slack on or around holidays (and lots of business people vacationing), it is possible that the Acela trips will be selling at prices the same or maybe even less than the Regionals. That seems to happen frequently north of New York.

cool cool.. yea i noticed that some times about acelas :)

An idea. Since it's labor day weekend. If you want a good seat. Take an MBTA train or a Regional or AE to BOS and backtrack. Currently all early day AE's are going $2 cheaper then Regionals from PVD-NYP. A few mid day AE's are going a few bucks lower then a few Regionals out of BOS if you want a good seat. You'd have to spring more. But you'd get more points. BOS to NYP is a select pair for AE. It's up to you. Just giving you that option.

Highly unlikely that everything will be completely sold out. They just might be high bucket seats.

With eTicketing, can you not reserve without paying and pick up the ticket/pay at the station on departure day?

The bottom line is that we can all offer our educated guesses, but no one here can give you 100% certainty. Unless you have a reservation, there is always

that chance that seats on a reserved train will sell out before you buy your tickets.

If you are absolutely determined not to drive into New York City, you could always drive to Connecticut and take a Shore Line East/Metro-North commuter train.

Those are unreserved. The trip will take much longer (though it will be much cheaper, not factoring in gas.)

Well you can't get an actual eTicket until you pay, since that is a valid fare, but you should still be able to make an unpaid reservation by calling up an agent.

Yes, hold times vary between none & 7 days depending on the route, holiday's, and how close to the date of travel you are.

yea since its not until friday and only NEC its only a one day hold but it was worth asking anyway.. i checked on availability this afternoon.. pricey but still available :)

regionals leaving pvd at 650 is $84 and acela leaving at 645 is $99.. for the $15 i would prolly do acela :)

coming home is a little pricer though. i think i saw RT for 199 to 230
