Question about sleeper

Hi,

1st time poster & newbie to train travel, here. I have been trying to reserve a bedroom on the Empire Builder at amtrak's site, but every date I type in comes back as sold out. Is there something I don't understand, or are bedrooms sold out 1 year in advance?

What date range are you trying for? From what starting point to what end point? You can only book 11 months in advance. Are you trying further out than 11 months?

Also, are you clicking on the "View Upgrade Options" link? The fares that you see first are for coach travel.

Many of the roomettes and bedrooms are sold out for many routes in the summer, but just doing a (very) random search, I found many available in September and October. And as MrFSS said, you can only reserve 11 months in advance, so if you're checking beyond that, you won't find any!

as the above posters have said, if your trip is for this summer sleeper space could well be sold out for nearly all dates through september. amtrak prices their fares (both sleeper and coach) in buckets. this means there are, i believe for sleepers 5, spearate pricing levels for the same accomodation. generally, the earlier you reserve in advance rhw lower bucket(price) you will get. don't know why you can't find open dates checking several months in advance. you could always call 1-800-usarail(amtrak's reservation number) and give them a date and see what they have

You have had some good comments. Let me suggest you give us one of the dates you tried and then one of the more experienced can check it out just in case something is wrong.
