I am traveling on Amtrak for the first time on Friday from Raleigh to New York in a sleeper on the Silver Star. Is there anyplace near by the Raleigh station to grab a bite to eat while waiting for my train.?

There is not much around the RGH station at all. You might be best to find a place on your way there. The NB train operates on a later schedule than it used to which should allow you to find a place on your way to the station as there should be more places open. If you're being dropped off, then downtown is not all that far away (you can see it from the station across the tracks). But you'll have to have a cab to get there. It is not really bad since it appears it has been cleaned up, but IMO the neighborhood is still a little seedy in that area around the station. I'll let the others chime in from here....

OBS gone freight...

Is it too late to get breakfast on the train?
It's not too late if the train is on time and it is not overcrowded. The NB "Star" departs RGH shortly before 0900, and with the dining car closing at 1000, I wouldn't want to risk not having a meal available to me on the train in the case of a late train when I had plenty of chance to eat breakfast prior to boarding. If the train is just an hour late, they risk not getting into the diner in time for breakfast (and that is if it is not crowded). That is usually #92's busiest meal, anyway (or was when I worked at Amtrak).
