I am currently on #14(5). We left Seattle with a spare baggage car on the rear. Now they just added two Amfleet I's and a Horizon business class car on the rear. That makes a total of 16 cars. 72 axles with the locomotives.

If they added the cars in portland, they were probably the coaches off the daylight trip. The 4 domes went down on the july 4th starlight ... and the rest of the consist was a couple of amfleets and a horizon cafe

Elsewhere on the forum, some one made the guess that there would be extra CS cars to help absorb traffic from SWC passengers heading to and from the North, since the was missing so many trips. A few weeks ago there was one week neither the CZ nor the EB was running full length trips, and no alternative transportation was provided.

No capacity has been added to the Starlight. The train is already running is maximum three sleepers (and additional sleeper would overload the dining capacity of the train), and it normally runs with four coaches during the peak season.

As Giants Fan noted, there was a special excursion train out of Portland a few days ago, and now the equipment is heading back to either Oakland or LA.

P.S. I assume, since the train left Seattle, that the OP is actually on train 11 and not 14.

The Amfleets are for a special train being put together, currently they are awaiting cleaning and repairs if need be. The baggage car was just a buffer car.
