I picked up the brochure for the Reno Fun Train/Reno Snow Train.
The price is $229 for rail only Bay area to Reno round trip, more with hotel accommodation.
There's not much information in the brochure about the train itself. There's a photo of an Amtrak locomotive, and another shot of the train up in the Sierra that looks like a mix of Amfleet cars and private varnish.
It says "You may purchase snacks and drinks in the Great Dome Car", "dancing to the music of FunAntics in our Dance Car", "sing along in the Piano Lounge Car", and "There's even an exclusive car just for smokers."
Each trip has a different theme like "Country Western", "Mardi Gras", "Murder Mystery and Wine Sampling." One of them, on Feb. 17, is called "Railroad Celebration (note: Dance car not available on this departure)." (Note: that's ok, I don't like to dance much).
Doesn't seem to have a website, just an 800 number to call for reservations.
My question is, has anyone taken this Fun Train/Snow Train? What was your impression? What kind of rail cars do they use?
