Revamped Food Service in TGVs provided by outside vendor

Looks like in "Socialist" France, revamping on board food service on the generally profitable TGV services, involves outsourcing both product and personnel to the private sector....

Interestingly, in France it is the Long Distance division of SNCF that runs the HS network! Different situation, different perspective.

Compared to US geography, "Long Distance" is not really that long.

The Eurostar is run by it's own company, Eurostar International Limited. EIL is owned by SNCF, SNCB, and London & Continental Railways; all three are government owned rail companies. SNCF has very little to say in the operations of EIL, much to their disappointment; especially after EIL's decision to order Velaro units for the new trains rather then Alstom trains.

I rode the Eurostar First Class shortly after it started operation....it still used Waterloo Int'l station in London. The attendant gave me a very nice logo china cup and saucer to take as a souvenir......
