I am wondering about visiting the toilette in the middle of the night. Or even going to the Shower. Do people just put a bathrobe on? Do most people bring pajamas?

wear some kind of pants, shirt and shoes...pjs or day wear is up to you...

I've seen passengers in all forms of attire at night in Sleeper. Now I have heard tales of some showing up for breakfast in pajamas but have yet to witness it.

A T-shirt, athletic shorts, and hard-soled slippers does it for me. Others choose sweats, especially in the winter. Once I saw a very large older fellow in bunny-patterned PJs.

I find yoga pants to be very comfortable on a train.

I usually wear pajamas when sleeping on the train, but sometimes it's too warm and I just wear a cami and pajama bottoms (when the curtains are drawn). I put a hoodie or t-shirt on over the cami if I need to walk to the restroom.

I'd never go to the dining car in my pajamas, even with a robe, but that's just my old-fashioned upbringing talking. I certainly wouldn't judge anybody else for it. :)

Thank you everyone for very useful and non judgmental advice. You've given me many great ideas of what to wear to the shower and toilette. I assure you that you won't see me in the dining car in anything but street clothes! Thanks so much.

I go "au natural"!

Man, I wish I had the savoir faire to carry off that outfit!
You should do it. I always wear super-cute pajamas on the train. It's one of the few times you can show off awesome sleepwear. :)

One trip featured pink flannel pajamas with cupcakes all over them, and I had on red and green plaid pajamas for Christmas.

For a man: longsleeve athletic shirt and athletic pants or shorts

For a woman: black long underwear, full zip tunic-length (mid-thigh) hoodie or jacket

For me it depends on the season I guess... Spring short sleves and my Phillies pants. Summer a gym shirt and shorts. Fall I wear anything from short sleeves to long sleeves, same with shorts and pants. Winter I wear A Nike Under Armour type shirt and Sweatpants. I'm picky. :help:

I can neither confirm nor deny any nighttime (or daytime) activities that may or may not have happened while on my honeymoon on the train (which started 2 years ago today).

If it's cool in the sleeper, I usually wear drawstring pants (kind of like yoga pants, but looser) and a t-shirt. If it's warm, I wear one of those snapfront things sometimes called a "model coat." (And I find I usually have to bring both kinds of sleepwear, because you never know what the temperature in the sleepers will be like). Or I take a pair of elastic-waist shorts and a t-shirt.

(I also carry one of those fleece miniblankets that you can fold up into a small case. It's been very useful on a couple of occasions when the car is unexpectedly cold)

I've actually never run into anyone when I get up to go to the loo in the night, so I don't worry too much about how I'm dressed. I wouldn't go to the diner in pajamas, though I have seen people do that.

Once on the EB a Canadian oil field roustabout appeared in the diner one morning dressed in wife-beater T-shirt, pajama shorts, baseball cap and bare feet. The lead SA sent him back after she caught her breath. The entire diner cheered. The night before he had boasted at length about his career in Big Oil and the boasts grew louder the more he drank.

Speaking of baseball caps, I have often wondered why so many men do not take them off while dining on the train and in restaurants. Same with those wide brimmed Western hats. It seems so declasse.
