This is good reason for America to step aside this round of the Olympics. The Soviets are having enough trouble getting these to go off as planned and security seems to be seriously lacking.

I am sorry to hear of any bloodshed anywhere in the world. I wonder what the difference is between Boston and Volgograd? Should we tourists avoid America as well as Russia?

Ed

I'm not sure if they're going for sensationalism here, but, regardless, this rubbed me the wrong way:

It is the second bombing in the southern Russian city in two months and comes less than six weeks ahead of the Winter Olympics in Sochi, located less than 1,000 kilometers (620 miles) from Volgograd.
That's like saying, "This horrible thing happened in Philadelphia, which is less than 700 miles from Kalamazoo, MI." (It's 673)

Oooohhhhhh...

That kind of low effort reasoning is no different than saying everyone should have avoided Texas, New Mexico, Colorado, Kansas, Missouri, Arkansas, and Louisiana after Timothy McVeigh blew up the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City. If you had spent most of your life training for what is likely to be a once-in-a-lifetime Olympic run how would you feel about someone claiming all American participants should be forced to boycott the games whether they they feel it's safe enough or not? I'd rather let the participants make that decision for themselves. If there is a lesson to be learned from the last forced boycott I'd suggest it was that little or nothing was accomplished, except to deprive hundreds of innocent participants of their opportunity to win.

Agreed!

This should be left up to those going; not mandated by Government.

And the first boycott was even worse, since that was totally a political decision something that the games are supposed to be above. At least this one could argue safety, but again, it should still be left up to those going.

It's a Crazy World Everywhere with all the Lunatics on the Loose! I Agree that a Boycott of the Olympics as Government Policy is Bad Policy and Bad Politics as Jimmy Carter Discovered! !! It should be left up to the Individual Athletes As Was Said! Fear is the Number One Tactic and Weapon of All Terrorists, Don't Live in Fear Especially in this Wonderful Country that Most of Us are Privileged to Call Home! ;) (No Offense to any other Country, Except for North Korea and some of the Dictator Run Hell Holes in the Various Parts of the World!)

Exploding derailed oil trains seem more of a hazard to the average US citizen than Russian suicide bombers.....
